What are the advantages to learning Chinese?

Consider the following:

• Chinese is the language with the largest number of native speakers.
• Those with knowledge of a foreign language are more competitive in looking for jobs and are more desired by employers than those without knowledge of a foreign language.
• China has become a major economic power in the world with plenty of business opportunities from American corporations open to Americans with a grasp of the Chinese language (Business Week).
• Foreign language has become a requirement for high school graduation, and Chinese is being offered in many high schools as a foreign language class with AP credit.

Why is learning a Foreign language so important at a young age?
It is always easier to learn a new language at a very young age, while the brain is still open to the effort-free and rapid learning of vocabulary.  Chinese and other East Asian languages have a grammar structure different than those of Western languages.  Thus, learning the basic syntax at a young age proves to be extremely useful for learning the language at a later age, when the brain becomes less open to learning another language.
